The Property Underwriters programme has been designed to provide underwriters of the Eurapco Partners with a unique international experience and the opportunity to learn and share best practices with international colleagues from the Eurapco Alliance.

Emerging challenges in international businesses have gained extreme importance. The COVID-19 outbreak has only increased the level of complexity in managing risks.

Taught by industry experts in and outside of the Eurapco Alliance, the Property Underwriters programme will elaborate on the vital underwriting issues in a highly engaging way through a series of online and in-class activities.

The first focus of this advanced Property Underwriters Programme, which will be planned as a series for the upcoming years, will be on the Property line of business.

The programme also consists of the “Property Underwriters Challenge” which is related to both the online and the on-site module. Each team will present their results within module III (on-site) including feedback round etc., which is part of the challenge.

DURATION

The Property Underwriters programme will take place in a blended format (online and on-site) and will be split into three phases; two online phases and one on-site phase.

LOCATION

The on-site module of the PUP will take place at a Chateauform in Europe (TBD)

COSTS

Fee indication: €2000.

The costs of the programme will be charged directly to your company. This fee includes accommodation, drinks and food, trainers, speakers and study materials.

Note: Participants’ travelling costs are not included in programme costs, as they can differ per person; prices are exclusive of VAT. Location and costs are subject to change, based on the number of participants.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
The structure of the programme is as follows:

  • Get to know each other as a basis for working and learning together and creating a community of practice for the future.
  • Property Reinsurer´s point of view along specific large claims scenarios and experiences referring to different industry sectors.
  • Specific Risk Evaluation Tools
  • Risk Engineering and Loss Prevention measures
  • Participate in a Property Underwriters case study challenge. The Property Underwriters Challenge relates to both the online and the on-site module. Participants are split in teams and each team will present their results within module III (on-site) including feedback round.
  • Risk classification and segmentation
  • The Emerging & Evolving Risks Landscape and corresponding U/W possibilities
  • Risk Evaluation Process and Instruments / Data-based Underwriting
  • Supply chains and supplier dependencies considering different industry sector
  • Sharing best practices on Underwriting processes amongst the Eurapco Partners: best practices on basic criteria and elements of a reasonable Underwriting Process with prudent approach and specialities per industry sector and country. Clarification of basic definitions especially concerning EML and PML
  • In different break-outs, 3 topics:
    1. Contingent BI/Non-physical damage BI / Risk evaluation and Wording Break-out
    2: Large Brokers Wordings, special clauses and SLAs including U/W workflow, Brokers risk survey reports Break-out
    3: European Pool products and territories (Nat/Cat, Terror, Flood)
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
The Property Underwriters programme has been developed for junior and medium-experienced Property Underwriters with minimum 1 to 5 years of experience in the field of Property Underwriting (PD/BI, Fire and Allied Perils).

Since the programme is conducted in English, good business knowledge of the English language is essential.

Cancellation Policy
In the event of cancellation, programme fees will be payable according to the following schedule:

  • 90 to 60 days’ notice: 50% of the fee
  • 60 to 30 days’ notice: 75% of the fee
  • 30 days’ notice or less: 100% of the fee

  • Best practices on basic criteria and elements of a reasonable Underwriting Process with prudent approach and specialties per industry sector and country.
  • Clarification on basic definitions especially concerning EML and PML.
  • Underwriting guidelines, proxies, deductibles, pricing issues and portfolio management including workflow/co-operation especially with brokers channel.

Underwriters Case Study Challenge

  • During the online meetings, the Property Underwriters Challenge will be provided. Participants will be organised in international teams to work on this challenge in the period between the 1st and 3rd module. This will be done in virtual teams, using Skype/MS Teams and/or other online tools to collaborate.
  • The outcomes will be presented during the 3rd (on-site) module. The teams will be guided by Eurapco (on the process) and by the sponsors (on the content).
  • Typically, the time invested in the Property Underwriters Challenge is 10 hours.

Keynote Presentation: The Emerging & Evolving Risks Landscape and corresponding U/W possibilities

Including technology & processing trends such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) and their impact on Underwriting and Risk Management, but also disruptive impact & innovation pressure caused by Coronavirus crisis.

Keynote Presentation: Risk Evaluation Process and Instruments / Data-based Underwriting

Presentation of a Risk Evaluation tool including specific examples of risk surveys considering different industry segments as well as specific accumulation risks.

Break-out session 1
